YOUNG CRITIC'S POINT OF VIEW

While I love the "Phantom" I must admit I was a bit disappointed. I have read this book 15 times, seen a recording of the original cast 55 times, and watched the movie more times than I can count. While the performance that I went to seemed to have no emotion in it. I know every line, every word, and every part of this play and i must say I could do a better job then what I saw. The actress that played Christine seemed to force her voice to a point of it being unhealthy and unnecessary. The Phantom was not as much as a failure; by the fact that his phrasing was off and the breathing seemed shallow he was okay. The rest of the cast just looked flat out tired and sluggish like they had been out drinking earlier and not tried to put on their best performance. In the overall point of this review is that I a young critic have been disappointed by the legendary "Phantom of the Opera".

THE NEW CHANGES ARE DISAPPOINTING

If you've never seen the original Phantom of the Opera, you'll likely enjoy the experience not knowing what you're really missing. Those however that have attended previously will be disappointed with the changes, especially the Masqureade scene. It went from an amazing spectacle to nothing noteworthy . Performers & orchestra did fantastic. I enjoyed Mark Campbell as Phantom. Some of the changes though seem to have caused a lack of passion/connection between the characters. I usually attend a few times when Phantom is in town, once will be enough with the "new" version.

NOT AS ENJOYABLE AS PREVIOUS VERSION

Sound let it down for me, vocals were drowned out by the orchestra and when you could hear Them they were too harsh. New set was interesting and clever . If you saw the last production in Chicago you will be disappointed.

DISAPPOINTED IN THIS VERSION OF PHANTOM.

While it was a good show, it was Not a phenomenal show. The singing was good but I have heard better. I have seen better Productions of Broadway's Phantom of the Opera , this show was very different from past shows I have seen I did not think it was as well done and I was let down and disappointed. It felt like they did not want to put much money into this show. The set was revolving and though interesting didn't feel like a broadway set. The singing was good but not mind blowing I have seen better. I didn't feel the passion from the actors in the lead roles. Costumes were not as good as in past either. Masquerade was a disappointment as well. No grand stair case or splendid costumes. No cymbals cashing not well enough singing. I guess if this was your first time seeing it you would have loved it but I have seen it many times before and this performance was a let down because the past Phantoms I have seen were just so phenomenal and amazing.

DISAPPOINTING

Very disappointed. Could not see because everything was so dark, no definition of stage--everything was gray or black. Could not understand words because is was too loud. It was a gift to myself and my sisters from my husband, how do I tell him it wasn't the greatest after he spent so much money. On the other hand liked the costume and scenery changes. Some almost seemed magical.

BEAUTIFUL!

Amazing performance by everyone. The opera house is beautiful and the seats were great. The newer version of phantom is definitely not what you're used too if you've seen the original. Music and story line is the same but seems they took the music and made different meanings throughout the story. It was more intimate and passionate between the main characters. I will say the orchestra pit was absolutely breath taking! I was so moved and felt goosebumps more than once. The music made the play and would see it again in a heartbeat! Only downside is why they would serve popcorn and a upscale venue. People made a mess!
